Ciao, sono Gabriele, sono un maestro di sci di fondo e accompagnatore di media montagna. Vivo in Trentino e amo sciare. Non faccio distinzione tra un tipo di sci e un altro, per me l'importante è avere un attrezzo sotto i piedi per scivolare sulla neve.

Lo sci di fondo, tuttavia, ha un'anima in più: è il primo mezzo di locomozione inventato dall'umanità. Con gli sci di fondo puoi andare dove vuoi, come vuoi, con chi vuoi. Sono uno strumento di libertà, sono gli attrezzi per eccezione dei curiosi e degli esploratori sulla neve. Però i fondisti stessi se ne sono dimenticati.

Per questo motivo voglio utilizzare gli sci per la loro funzione originale: un mezzo di locomozione per spostarsi in libertà sulla neve da un luogo all'altro. Per viaggiare.

Ho deciso di affrontare un viaggio in un territorio caratterizzato non solo da natura e ambienti mozzafiato, ma anche dalla genuinità di gente di montagna, da storia, buon cibo e cultura. Ho deciso di affrontare il mio viaggio nel Caucaso.

Circa 500 km, 2 mesi, da metà gennaio a metà marzo 2021. Non vuole essere un'impresa sportiva ma solo un modo di raccontare gli sci sotto una veste che vada oltre lo sport, il divertimento, l'adrenalina. Sci che accompagnano alla scoperta, sci che aiutano a creare legami tra le persone, sci che portano benessere o ipersfruttamento delle risorse. 

Perché il nome "White Caucasus XC skiing"? Perché noi conosciamo l'abbinamento delle due parole "bianco" e "caucaso" per definire una superata spregevole "identità di razza". Perciò desidero ridare alle due parole la loro purezza. 

Per affrontare il viaggio mi sono dato delle regole:

• Ogni spostamento nel limite del possibile verrà effettuato con gli sci
• Gli sci dovranno essere sempre a tallone libero
• Quando non in tenda, cercherò ospitalità in famiglia o in guesthouse
• Il riuso: gran parte dell'attrezzatura dovrà essere recuperata, di seconda mano, purché in buone condizioni.

Voglio rendervi partecipi di questo viaggio documentando e raccontandovi non solo l'esperienza, ma anche un anno di preparazione. Vi porterò con me a conoscere i territori, le persone, le tradizioni, ma soprattutto alla riscoperta degli sci di fondo. Vorrei farvi sentire miei compagni di viaggio. Hi, I'm Gabriele, I'm a cross-country ski instructor and mountain leader. I live in Trentino and I love skiing. I don't distinguish between one type of ski and another, for me the important thing is to have a tool under my feet to slide on the snow.

Cross-country skiing, however, has a deeper soul: it is the first means of locomotion invented by humanity. With cross-country skis you can go wherever you want, like you want, with whoever you want. They are an instrument of freedom, they are the tools of the curious and explorers on the snow. But the cross-country skiers themselves have forgotten this.

For this reason I want to use skis for their original function: a means of locomotion to move freely on the snow from one place to another. To travel.

I decided to face a journey in an area characterized not only by nature and breathtaking environments, but also by the authenticity of mountain people, by history, good food and culture. I have decided to face my journey in the Caucasus.

About 500 km, 2 months, from mid-January to mid-March 2021. It is not meant to be a sport feat but only a way of telling skis in a way that goes beyond sport, fun and adrenaline. Skis that accompany discovery, skis that help create relationships between people, skis that bring well-being or over-exploitation of resources.

Why the name "White Caucasus XC skiing"? Because we know the combination of the two words "white" and "caucasus" to define an outdated despicable "race identity". Therefore I wish to restore the purity to the two words.

To face the journey I gave myself some rules:

• Any transfer as far as possible will be done on skis
• The skis must always be with free heels
• When not in a tent, I will look for family or guesthouse hospitality
• Reuse: much of the equipment has to be second hand

I want to make you join this journey by documenting and telling you not only the experience, but also a year of preparation. I will take you with me to know the territories, people, traditions, but above all to the rediscovery of cross-country skiing. I would like to make you feel like my travel companions.
