NOTE DI REGIA
Da ragazzina, passavo i pomeriggi a spalare letame di cavallo. Era il prezzo da pagare per poter cavalcare nel fine settimana insieme a mia sorella maggiore. Era un lavoro estenuante, ma nel momento in cui salivo in sella, tutto il resto svaniva. Immaginavo le vaste pianure dei film western che guardavo da piccola, sognando avventure, libertà e personaggi leggendari. Ci ho messo un po' a capire che gli eroi che cercavo non erano pistoleri. Erano persone comuni. Erano donne come mia madre, mia sorella, le mie amiche... donne che affrontano le proprie paure ogni giorno senza che nessuno le definisca mai "eroine". *Western Story* nasce da quel ricordo e da una domanda che non riesco a scacciarmi di dosso: quale tipo di libertà possiamo ancora concederci oggi e quale prezzo comporta?

Anche le protagoniste del mio film, Bruna e Pina, non sono eroine. Sono imperfette, contraddittorie, segnate dal tempo e dalle scelte compiute. Una ha costruito la propria identità sull'indipendenza più assoluta, fino a perdere il contatto con le persone che ama. L'altra ha vissuto per gli altri, dimenticando cosa significhi desiderare qualcosa per sé. Insieme, arrivano a un punto di non ritorno: cambiare adesso o rassegnarsi a una vita mai scelta fino in fondo. Mi affascinano le donne di un'età che il mondo tende a ignorare, donne che decidono comunque di rischiare, di fallire, di tornare a desiderare: non per nostalgia di ciò che erano un tempo, ma perché quel desiderio è ancora vivo, ancora necessario. Questo film è dedicato a chiunque abbia ancora il coraggio di cambiare vita, anche quando tutti gli altri pensano che sia ormai troppo tardi.

UN WESTERN ITALIANO DIVERSO DAL SOLITO
Western Story racconta la storia di Bruna e Pina, due donne in pensione che durante un'escursione a cavallo si imbattono in un antico reperto etrusco. Quando decidono di venderlo sul mercato nero, le loro vite prendono una piega tanto surreale quanto irreversibile. 
Ma Western Story è molto più di un'avventura.
È una storia di seconde possibilità, di amicizia, di libertà e del coraggio di inseguire i propri desideri anche quando sembra che il tempo sia ormai scaduto.
È un omaggio al grande cinema degli spaghetti western italiani che, questa volta, sceglie di ribaltare le regole del genere: al centro della scena non ci sono pistoleri o banditi, ma due donne mature che decidono finalmente di diventare protagoniste della propria vita.

Bex Gunther è una regista e sceneggiatrice italo-americana il cui immaginario nasce dall'incontro tra il cinema western americano e la grande tradizione degli spaghetti western italiani. Il suo sguardo unisce sensibilità autoriale e narrazione popolare, dando vita a storie intime ambientate in paesaggi capaci di diventare essi stessi protagonisti.
Con Western Story realizza un progetto profondamente personale, ispirato ai ricordi della sua infanzia e alle cavalcate condivise con la sorella, trasformando quei momenti in una riflessione universale sul coraggio di cambiare, sulla libertà e sulla possibilità di ricominciare.

Il progetto è stato infatti selezionato e sostenuto dal Lazio Film Fund, un importante riconoscimento che ne ha premiato il valore artistico, la qualità della scrittura e la solidità produttiva.
Ora vogliamo fare il passo più importante: trasformare questa visione in un film capace di emozionare il pubblico.

In particolare, ci aiuterai a realizzare:

• una colonna sonora originale, composta appositamente per il film, capace di evocare il fascino senza tempo degli spaghetti western italiani, reinterpretandone le sonorità in chiave contemporanea;
• un accurato lavoro di sound design, affinché il vento, gli zoccoli dei cavalli, il silenzio dei paesaggi e ogni dettaglio sonoro diventino parte integrante della narrazione, proprio come nei grandi western;
• una fotografia dal forte impatto cinematografico, valorizzando la luce naturale e gli straordinari paesaggi italiani per trasformarli in un West tutto nostro, sospeso tra realtà e mito;
• una direzione artistica e costumi ricercati, che fondano l'estetica degli spaghetti western con l'eleganza italiana contemporanea, rendendo il mondo del film autentico e riconoscibile;
• una post-produzione di alto livello, con particolare attenzione al montaggio, al color grading e al mix sonoro, per restituire tutta la forza visiva ed emotiva della storia.

Ogni contributo sarà destinato ad accrescere la qualità artistica dell'opera, permettendoci di realizzare il film esattamente come lo abbiamo immaginato.

IPOTESI DI CAST
Per dare vita ai personaggi di Western Story stiamo costruendo un cast di altissimo livello, capace di restituire tutta la forza emotiva di questa storia.
Tra le nostre ipotesi di cast figurano Valeria Golino per il ruolo di Bruna, e Valeria Bruni Tedeschi per quello di Pina, due delle interpreti più autorevoli e apprezzate del cinema italiano contemporaneo, la cui sensibilità artistica rappresenta perfettamente lo spirito del progetto.

Western Story prenderà vita nel Lazio, una terra che da sempre ospita il grande cinema western grazie ai suoi paesaggi autentici, ai borghi senza tempo e agli ampi scenari naturali che hanno fatto da sfondo a numerose produzioni del genere.
Tra sentieri, colline e campagne, la luce naturale e un'estetica ispirata agli spaghetti western daranno vita a un West tutto italiano, capace di raccontare una storia di amicizia, libertà e seconde possibilità.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

As a little girl, I spent my afternoons shoveling horse manure. It was the price I had to pay if I wanted to ride horses on weekends with my older sister. It was exhausting work, but the moment I climbed into the saddle, everything else disappeared.
I imagined the vast landscapes of the western films I grew up watching, dreaming of adventure, freedom, and legendary characters.
It took me a while to realize that the heroes I was looking for weren't gunslingers.
They were ordinary people.
They were women like my mother, my sister, my friends... women who face their fears every day without anyone ever calling them "heroes."
Western Story was born from those memories and from a question I have never been able to shake:
What kind of freedom can we still allow ourselves today, and what price are we willing to pay for it?

Like the women I grew up admiring, Bruna and Pina are not heroes.
They are flawed, contradictory, shaped by time and by the choices they've made.
One has built her identity around absolute independence, eventually losing touch with the people she loves. The other has spent her entire life caring for everyone else, forgetting what it means to want something for herself.
Together, they reach a point of no return: either they change now, or they surrender to a life they never truly chose.
I am fascinated by women of an age the world often overlooks—women who still dare to take risks, to fail, and to dream again. Not because they long for who they once were, but because that desire is still alive.
This film is dedicated to everyone who still has the courage to change their life, even when everyone else believes it's too late.

Western Story follows Bruna and Pina, two retired women who stumble upon an ancient Etruscan artifact during a horseback excursion. When they decide to sell it on the black market, their lives take a surreal and irreversible turn.
But Western Story is much more than an adventure.
It is a story about second chances, friendship, freedom, and the courage to pursue your dreams—even when it feels like time has already run out.
It is a tribute to the great tradition of Italian Spaghetti Westerns, while completely overturning the genre's conventions: this time, there are no gunslingers or outlaws at the center of the story, but two mature women who finally choose to become the protagonists of their own lives.
