Salve a tutti! Sono di nuovo io Gianni Nicola (o Nicola Gianni… boh? Chi lo sa?), in arte “Oh No, It’s Prog!”. Due anni fa mi sono rivolto a Produzioni dal Basso per cercare finanziatori per il mio primo Cd dal titolo “Oh no, It’s Prog!”. Il risultato? Ottimo!

L’inaspettato successo della prima opera mi ha incoraggiato a continuare e ora sono lieto di annunciarvi che stanno per cominciare le registrazioni di “Those about to Prog, We salute you”, il secondo capitolo del progetto "Oh no, It's Prog!"

Il titolo è un omaggio a due band molto importanti nella storia del rock. La prima si può considerare a ragion veduta come una delle formazioni che diedero origine al Prog, ovvero i Colosseum del compianto John Hiseman, che nel 1969 registrarono il loro primo Lp intolato “Those who are about to die salute you”. La seconda, pur essendo distante anni luce dal Prog, è tuttavia una grandissima Hard-rock band, ovvero gli AC/DC con il loro “For those about to rock (we salute you)” del 1981. Tuttavia, ci tengo a precisare, che in questo lavoro non troverete nessun riferimento alle due summenzionate band. Il titolo, come anche il nome del progetto, è pura e semplice ironia. Il mio stile compositivo è molto ispirato dai gruppi seminali della prima ondata Prog come i Genesis, i Jethro Tull o il Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, ma anche da quelli degli anni Ottanta, secondo me altrettanto capaci quanto i loro “padri”, come i Marillion, gli IQ fino ad arrivare ai giorni nostri con qualche venatura di Porcupine Tree.

I sette brani di varia durata trattano gli argomenti più diversi. Dall’introduttivo e minimale “Julian and the spider” (del quale potete vedere un teaser cliccando sul link in allegato) fino al lungo e articolato “The other side of the bed”. Gli argomenti trattati nei testi variano da racconti di vicende personali, storie “horror” demenziali fino a commenti ironici su cliché musicali e tanto altro.

Per tutti coloro che non conoscono il mio lavoro precedente potete farvene un'idea cliccando sui due video sottostanti. Nella gallery di questa pagina troverete altri due video estratti dal primo cd "Oh no, It's Prog" dal titolo "Happy Song" e "The Dream part 2" e un terzo video al momento senza titolo che vi permetterà di ascoltare la demo del brano che aprirà "Those about to Prog, We salute You" . In questo modo potrete ascoltare dei corposi estratti del primo CD e farvi un’idea più concreta del mio stile.

Troverete nei riquadri a fianco le varie offerte di finanziamento. Mi auguro che sarete in tanti ad aderire alla mia inziativa nel frattempo come dicevano gli Aerosmith: “Prog on, prog on, prog on untill your dream come true!”, o forse non era proprio così…

Hello everybody! More than two years ago I composed my first work entitled “Oh no, It’s Prog!” and I have to say that it was quite a success. I decided to continue and after two years of composing, honing, cutting and pasting I am ready to record the second step of the “Oh no, It’s Prog!” project the mighty “Those about to Prog, We salute you!”.

The title wants to pay tribute to two great rock bands: The Colosseum of the late John Hiseman and to the Australian hard-rockers AC/DC. Mind! My music has very little in common with the two above mentioned bands. I love joking and the title, like the moniker of the project, it’s simply a joke. My music is deeply rooted in the style of the seminals bands of the Seventies, Eighties and so on. Combos like Genesis, Jethro Tull, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, IQ, Marillion, Spock’s Beard and many others are part and parcel of my musical DNA.

The work presents seven new songs which vary in lenght and topics. From the minimalist and intimistic “Julian and the Spider” (of which you can see a teaser clicking on the link) to the long and articulated “The other side of the bed”. The song topics vary from personal histories to demential horror tales, considerations on the facts of life and sublte mocks on the musical clichès.

I am very happy to announce that the great professional musicians playing on my first Cd will be back on board on my crazy vessel. They are really good musicians and tutors who worked for many well known italian songwriters or as permanent members of the bands for musicals like “Jesus Christ Superstar” or “The Phantom of the Opera”.
