Visioni in Contatto

E' ancora bello sognare l' imprevisto.

- affitto di 3 sale per 12 ore per il 26 e il 27 Maggio;
- stampa foto misure varie per la mostra;

Marco Ubaldi ricercatore danzante

Come è nata l’idea?

In particolare: Marco Olivieri, Luca Di Bucchianico, Marco Santamaria, Shelly Bisirri, Luca Vaccarini, Andrea Liberati, Francesco De Ficchy, Lorenzo Lustri, Giusi Bullotta, Luigi Ramundo e i free rider Maurizio Matteucci e Gianfranco Pigozzi.

NOI FOTOGRAFI

Nato, pertanto, dall’INCONTRO.

Contact Vision

Photographic Exhibition and Contact Improvisation Jam with live music

It's still nice to dream about the unexpected:
to believe you will get along with something you do not know.
Much of what we know is still an obstacle to ourselves
.
(Ritsaert ten Cate, Mickery Theater Director, Amsterdam 1981)

The first idea of this project was conceived to promote the knowledge and the practice of Contact Improvisation ( CI ) in Rome and in Italy. Dancing CI offers a contemporary opportunity to meet, to dance improvising in freedom, to stay healthy, to share with others, to connect professional dancer and neophytes, to take care of ourselves, to grow and grow together.

The CI is suitable for inquiring people who want to know and become aware in a new way of their body in motion. We want to promote an event that is, at the same time, both a social and cultural initiative. A free and dancing space where you can see Contact Improvisation, where is possible to have a try and to practice CI.

The event consists of a photographic exhibition and a long Jam that aims to tell the jams which took place from September 2017 to May 2018 in the San Lo' space in Rome. In each jam a photographer, expert or amateur, participated by photographing and dancing. Eight photographers have documented, from their point of view, the jam for 9 months.

In addition, the event will include a free, open-to-open Contact Improvisation jam lasting 6 hours the first day and other 6 hours the second day, with live music opening the exhibition and covering all the jam in three rooms.

The date of the exhibition / jam Contact Improvisation is scheduled for 26 and the 27 of May 2018.

It will be a celebration of CI and with CI.  In three different rooms there will be CI jams  guided by twelve teachers for  the warm up in different hours. A Jam session,  of twelve hours,  with improvised music by Ned Ensemble and special guests and the exposure of the photos of the different photographers, is waiting for us: on 26 Th of May, Saturday , from 2 p.m to 8pm, and on the 27 of May- Sunday,  from 11 am to 5 p.m in San Lo' in Rome. Up to now there are twelve teachers, with different background, experience and vision on Ci, who will introduce us in the Jam, they are: Barbara Lucarini, Vera De Propis, Glenda Giacco, Valentina Versino, Maura Elcaras Falkenberg, Cristina Meloro, Ippokratis Veneris, Fabio Saetta, Marco Ubaldi, Paolo Cingolani, Simonetta Alessandri e Laura Delfini.

During the event some proposals will make us play by meeting that magical and extra dailyspace that enlivens the listening. Not thinking but feeling is what we would like to live more in these two days.

The musicians will give life to different atmospheres in dialogue with the photographic works and with the dance and the dancers. To dance among the images, with the photos, to interact with the shapes, the sensations which emerge, the emotions that arouse the images, to manifest new configurations in space: we wish that all this will happen. It is a research among photographers, dancers and musicians, a path where to experiment new interactions. A chance to be and feel part of a process.

To realize this event, which intends to be the first of many others to come around the CI, we decided to involve the public and address both fans of CI, dancers and movers in general, and all those who believe in art as form of expression and union. We want to launch a Crowdfunding and collect together the money necessary to realize our dream.

Marco Ubaldi, dancer and promoter of the project

It all started in 1973 when I arrived on planet earth. At the age of 4, in nursery school lead by nuns, I began to play theater, this creative and educational activity that humans normally do both unconsciously and consciously. At that time with Carlo, a family friend, I was dancing the waltz, he an adult and me a child. Theater and dance began to be part of my life. For 12 years I worked as a furniture-maker to please my family. While I was doing this job something inside me told me that it was not my destiny. In 2001, after the death of my father, I decided to leave the work as furniture-maker to devote myself to the study of juggling, percussion and dance. You cannot do everything and I decided to leave the juggling and the percussion to deepen the dance and the theater -dance which i met later on. In 2001 I also met Alito Alessi pioneer of DanceAbility and international Contact Improvisation teacher. It was in this occasion I met Contact Improvisation. Since then, the study of Contact Improvisation has become pathological and irreversible. Currently the disease persists and after many years of harmonic and dis-harmonic encounters in the universe of Contact Improvisation participating in the Festival, Jam, Workshop and Contact Camp I have not yet healed. My contemporary interest in life and in art deals with everything that can be a meeting with the other, growth, sharing, body contact, mental freedom, human diversity, physical connection, creative exchange and emotional encounter. I studied with many pioneering teachers of Contact Improvisation and many others, less known. I believe that I will die with this irreversible pathology and to make this happen, I have been teaching and continue to teach Contact Improvisation, Contact Family and DanceAbility.

Why do I teach Contact Improvisation?

In the last years I have dedicated myself totally to teaching C I and all that belongs to 'feel' and the human relationship of a body in the environment. Dancing is one of the instrument I use, but not the only one. I consider CI a complete discipline and a 'world heritage site', a practice that gives health (with an adequate and attentive body work) knowledge of oneself, of our potential and limits, a way to reach personal growth, sharing and collective growth. Professional contemporary dancers and newcomers can, in CI meet, first of all as people and dance together, going beyond their dance personal experience. As an 'evolving system of movement and a system in evolution' CI draw from other disciplines and knowledges to bring in the contact experience a certain quality of the feeling. Trough practicing and studying we can deepen the experience of CI, and the infinite possibilities that this language offers can be opened. Regardless of the path that each person has made in his life an important feature and characteristic of CI, which is very close to my heart, and I feel more and more develop in my personal journey, is the possibility of making us more human and welcoming in difference. I deeply believe, and I'm convinced, that if more people were practicing CI society would simply improve because communication, through body contact, becomes more attentive and profound. A utopia that helps to give the certainty that there is a dream. A dream that nourishes the quality of life and relationships in a positive and constructive way.

Why photographing CI?

To leave a sign, to record, to be looked at, to give it an image, to arouse curiosity, to make it better known, to make people try and practice the CI

Why a photographic Exhibition of CI jam?

To create a possibility for people to meet, to make something happen, to make people live a sensory experience, to show, make it well known and experience CI

Why Extemporary Live Music?

There is an affinity in the music research of musicians and in the dancing body ...the musicians of the Collective NED, Nostra Etichetta Discografica "Our discographic label", who participated in the process of these months, and who will publish a CD of original music created in dialogue with the dancers of Contact, wrote some notes on this. "The impromptu approach to the sound and music organization proposed by NED, meets the Contact Improvisation Dance and thanks to the dedication of months now, we defined better the sound experience as a dancing body, alive. We realized that there is a deep affinity between players and dancers in the shared research of a lived but not exhibited wonder, of a free communicability of the surfaces and of an intense immediacy, which are fully revealed in the event of the meeting: it is called then concert, jam or other, it does not really matter, the substance in fact resides in creating together and, you know, creation is life. We conclude with a question: playing and dancing, could we help us to know better what we are? " And other musicians played in the Jam, free rider, not part of the Ned Ensemble.

Who we are what have we done so far?

The idea of the exhibition/jam comes from Marco Ubaldi and Simona Verrusio. Simona has therefore decided to promote the initiative with the Association of Social Promotion, Piedi Nudi, of which she is the founder. The photographers we have involved and who have documented by photographing the SATURDAY JAM are: Patrizia Chiatti, Giordano Cianfaglione, Riccardo Marziali, Serena Belmonte, Giorgia Milan, Federica Delia, Alisa Martynova and Sergio Capitani. We have started a process that we do not know where it will take us. We have invited other photographers for the next jam from here to May trying to have other points of view and expand the vision on C.I. The musicians who participated in the Jam belong to the research group of NED (Nostra Etichetta Discografica), in particular Marco Olivieri, Luca Di Bucchianico, Marco Santamaria, Shelly Bisirri, Luca Vaccarini, Andrea Liberati, Francesco De Ficchy, Lorenzo Lustri, Giusi Bullotta, Ayler and the free riders Maurizio Matteucci and Gianfranco Pigozzi.

WE PHOTOGRAPHERS

What link exists between the gaze and the movement, between the observer and the observed, between photography and dance? How can the image, a single moment extrapolated from the continuity of time, be able to interpret the continuous flow of movement without encasing it and, indeed, extending its perspectives and possibilities?

This is what we explored in the project "Contact Improvisation -CONTACT VISION", born from an idea of sharing and exchanging knowledge and experience. Born, therefore, from the MEETING. Meeting between moving bodies; meeting between individuals who wants to discover themselves, meeting among different forms of expression but equally capable of bringing out, from the profound chaos, the creative urgency of beauty. The peculiarity of this exploration was the direct participation of us photographers, the observing eyes, to the experience of spontaneous collective dance of the Contact Improvisation. The movement, perceived and experienced from the inside, gave way to photographers to find the images in action, through a point of view that has been, from time to time, a real "take position", both in the physical sense to place oneself, experiencing the spatiality of one's own body and of others, both in the symbolic one of choice, selection of the gaze and of the memory. Therefore, the photographic point of view was not only an interpreter but also an effect of movement. And how, in the encounter with the other, the individual boundaries are lost in favor of a new and wider self, in the same way the image and the gesture are lost in each other to be reborn in a new creative space, made of fluidity, reciprocity and intensity of presence. paola Grazie a voi per l'iniziativa davvero bellissima! A presto!!! Paola Andreatta
