Cosa chiediamo

Il progetto Araneomorfi è iniziato uffiacialmente con il 2016. Per questi sei mesi di pre-produzione abbiamo lavorato con i nostri mezzi fisici, tecnici ed economici. Abbiamo ideato un progetto, scritto una sceneggiatura, realizzato gli storyboard, cercato le location e i partner. Il 6 settembre iniziano le riprese. Vogliamo raccogliere i fondi necessari per finanziare una produzione cinematografica della durata di una settimana, a cui lavoreranno circa una trentina di persone fra cast tecnico e artistico.

Fosse anche 5, 10 o 20 euro alla volta, dobbiamo arrivare a un budget di € 2800.

Chiunque contribuirà alla realizzazione di questo progetto, avrà uno spazio speciale nell'installazione, che vedrà la luce nella primavera del 2017.

I vostri nomi saranno con noi durante l'inaugurazione alla Fabbrica del Vapore, parte della nostra squadra.

Se riusciremo a raccogliere abbastanza finanziamenti anche per gli allestimenti futuri, ci stiamo già attivando per portare Araneomorfi in altre città e all'estero: oltre a Milano, anche Roma, Londra e Berlino!

Cosa faremo

Araneomorfi è una sfida: raccontare il rito come un procedimento psicologico e non solo come un'azione performativa. Il tarantismo ha in sè la profondità necessaria per arrivare a tutti i tipi di pubblico. Questo racconto parla di noi stessi, dei nostri spettatori. Vogliamo comunicare con chiunque abbia un ragno da affrontare, con cui imparare a danzare, purché sia propenso a farsi ispirare e a tirare fuori da sé le domande e la curiosità.

Crediamo in una forma cinematografica non convenzionale, che appassioni il pubblico e lo faccia sentire parte di un racconto condiviso. Quindi vi chiediamo di partecipare riservando al nostro progetto attenzione...e anche un po' di affetto. Potete condividere il nostro lavoro, scriverci le vostre impressioni e suggerirci suggestioni.

Chi siamo

Araneomorfi è un progetto ideato da YANEZ, associazione culturale nata nel 2016 dal sodalizio di quattro giovani donne, tutte under 30, dotate di personalità e professionalità complementari. 

Il nostro team è legato da solide relazioni di amicizia e collaborazione creativa. Abbiamo inoltre coinvolto nella squadra professionisti dei differenti settori della produzione cinematografica, che hanno trovato in questo progetto l'interesse a partecipare e un proficuo scambio umano e tecnico. Ci interessava che chiunque entrasse a far parte di questo percorso fosse dotato di sensibilità, ma fosse anche disposto a dedicarvi tempo ed energie. Abbiamo cercato, insomma, persone disposte ad offrire la propria personalità al racconto di un tema universale.

Il progetto si serve dunque delle competenze artistiche di videomakers, writers, musicisti, ballerini e coreografi, tecnici della fotografia e del suono, costumisti e truccatori, scenografi, studiosi di ritualità, musicologi, etnologi.

What are we asking for

Officially the project Araneomorfi started at the beginning of 2016. During the first 6 months of pre-production we worked with our own means, technical and economical. We sketched a concept, wrote the script, the storyboard, searched shooting locations, looked for partners, we've brought a team together. Shooting start date is the 6th of September. We want to collect the founding needed for a week of shooting that involves a technical and artistic cast of about 30 people.

Even if we will do it 5 by 5, or 10, or 20 euros, we must reach an amount of budget of € 9800.

Your names will be with us in the inauguration in Fabbrica del Vapore, you will be part of our team.

Everything will be ready in spring in 2017.

If we manage to raise enough funds for future installations too, we are already looking to bring Araneromorfi to other cities and abroad: for now, the eligible candidates, other than Milan, are Rome, London and Berlin!

What are we going to do

In the realization of Araneomorfi we built on a fundamental work: The Land of Remorse: A Study of Southern Italian Tarantism by Ernesto De Martino ( La terra del rimorso, 1961; Engl. tr. by D.L. Zinn, 2005). The striking images of this wonderful travel tale seemed immediately suitable not only for cinema, but also - and particularly - for a more modern and experimental format.

We decided to start off with an analysis of the tarantism phenomenon to tell a broader story: the universal - and at the same time individual - way of dealing and coping with the spider inside of us that everyone finds. The way of learning to dance with the spider.

The video installation tells about the traditional component of the ritual by means of a contemporary medium. A physical, real  itinerary is outlined, which is at the same time an inner and psychological one.

Unlike the conventional cinematic format, the visitor moves freely in the space and decides how much to get into each subject. By establishing the physical distance, as well as the other material conditions of reception (e.g. the viewing time), they establish also their emotional distance they want to put between them and the work.

For the realization we asked for help to Studio Azzurro, which provided us support and a space where we can exhibit for the very first time our work. It will be in the Fabbrica del Vapore, Area di Ricerca Progressiva, in Milan.

The role played by the music in the installation is as central as it was in the tradition on which we focus our work. In Araneomorfi image and sound carry the same weight. In order to emphasize the soundtrack without altering the original rhythm, we chose to collaborate for the soundtrack composition with a folk music band.

Araneomorfi is a challenge: telling the ritual as psychological process and not only as a performance. Tarantism's folkloristic roots can reach deeply into all kinds of audience. The story we tell says something about ourselves and our visitors. We want to communicate with anyone having a spider to fight, to learn to dance with, as long as they're open to inspiration and questioning themselves with curiosity. And we want to do it with a new medium that goes beyond cinematic narratives.

We believe in a non-traditional form of cinematic storytelling, one that involves and thrills the audience, evoking the feeling of belonging to, and sharing a story.

About us

Araneomorfi is a project created by YANEZ, a cultural organization born in 2016 by the cooperation of 4 young women under 30, with complementary personalities and fields of expertise. Solid friendship and creative collaboration bond our team together.

Furthermore, we brought into the team professionals from various movie production fields, interested in a profitable human and artistic exchange. Our aim was to identify potential project partners who had both a high level of sensitivity and insight into the topic and were also able to invest time and energy in the project. In short, we were looking for someone willing to put their personality into a story about a universal topic.

To sum up, the project profits from the artistic and technical competences of video-makers, writers, musicians, dancers and choreographers, cameramen [oppure: directors of photography?] and sound engineers, costume designers, make-up artists, set designers, researchers in ritual and performance studies, musicologists and ethnologists.
