Il Progetto

ITALIANO

Complete String Quartets".

ENGLISH

The Pitti project is the result of the collaboration between the Quartetto Delfico and the Florence Conservatory of Music. It aims to the modern discovery and performance of the music scores contained in the “Fondo Pitti”, the music library that belonged to the grand dukes Asburgo-Lorena of Tuscany.

The performances are held inside Palaces and other historical venues in Florence, thus pointing out the alliance between the city of Florence and the Pitti music collection, that constitutes one of the richest of its kind in the world.

The collection was gathered by the grand dukes between the second half of the 18th and the first half of the 19th century, and it contains pieces of  miscellaneous nature, that depict the evolution of  style and taste in music composition between the late Baroque and the early Romanticism.

Within the numerous pieces of music, we have selected some precious gems written for string quartet. The compositions selected are both original or historical transcriptions for this setting, and they are both manuscripts and prints. We have pursued the necessary studies and made the edition of the music for performance, following historically informed criteria.

We have thus planned a cycle of concerts and performances that showcase our work at the best. The whole plan will develop during several years.

The actor Roberto Salemi and the musicologist Elena Oliva have joined our project, in order to broaden the horizons of our research and expand it further than the strict performance aspect.

For the current year, the Pitti Project will host four events: two dealing with opera, one with sacred music and one with chamber music.

Mozart’s favourite, the famous performer of the Burgtheater of Vienna, was a singer from Tuscany, raised in the lively cultural scene of the grand duchy. He reached Vienna thanks to the fruitful cultural intercourses between the two courts.

The programme contains transcriptions for quartet from operas by Mozart, Salieri, Martin y Soler, Paisiello, Cimarosa. The voice of Elena Oliva will provide narrative binds between the different pieces.

La Passione di Nostro Signore Gesù Cristo by Paisiello, (The passion of our Lord Jesus Christ) transcribed for quartet by the great composer Giovanni Felice Mosel, with a projection of images that will guide the listening.

Why finance us

We ask you to accompany us through this fascinating work of discoveries and artistic production and to actively participate in our project, that involves the preparation of performances, the revision of the musical material, the realisation of each of the events scheduled for this current year.

Apart from the performances we will make a series of  recordings, live and in the studio, that will witness the work we are carrying on and that will serve us in the promotion and the future developments of the project.

The active involvement in our cultural initiatives is a value in which we firmly believe, a precious instrument that will give new lifeblood to our activity.

Who we are

Quartetto Delfico was formed by four friends brought together by their common passion for the

most classic form of chamber music: the quartet.

Its members, all of them working with various symphony orchestras and chamber groups

specialized in historically informed performances, embarked their own path by promoting,

alongside the great classical and romantic repertoire, the discovery of the Italian repertoire for

string quartet. Passionate readers and researchers of treaties and sources, they believe that the

practice on original instruments is an essential requirement in the process of defining their own

identity.

Since 2013 they are involved in the project "Quartetti d'Italia" promoted by IASM (Institute of

Music history of Abruzzo) performing live some freshly discovered music gems.

In May 2013, the Quartet has performed live on Radio 3 for the Sunday Concerts of the Quirinale,

and has taken part in the chamber music festival of Solisti Aquilani.

The quartet constitutes the string section of the Ensemble Delfico, a mixed group created to

expand the repertoire to wind instruments and double bass.

The Ensemble Delfico was selected as Jeune Ensemble in residence at the Centre de Rencontre

d'Ambronay, performing the Octet in F by Franz Schubert at the Ambronay Festival 2013. The

Ensemble has also performed at the Ravenna Festival and the Gaudete! Festival.
