Il Progetto

English version following...

In_Ocula e Do – nucleo culturale

CrAcK is a cultural and artistic cooperation project between West and Middle East, conceived by In_Ocula company in collaboration with Do – nucleo culturale in Faenza, in order to wonder about the contemporary man and his needs. It's a effective attempt of creating a cultural horizon able to accept and emphasize the peculiarities of each individual in his ability of creating new relational and social modalities, not based on the logic of profit but on his own need. It's an invitation to act rather than to be acted.

The project contemplates more exchange stages with different Middle Eastern countries.
The first step of CrAcK will take place in Italy in our town Faenza and in Bologna. We invited two Lebanese and a Syrian artists to stay with us and work together during four consecutive weeks in order to exchange views with them about crucial themes such as freedom of expression and individual identity, analysing them from different perspectives coming from our societies.
The research of CrAcK dwells upon the limits and the problems of the present day systems: the western capitalistic one broken up by strong paradoxes and continuously mined by an impending collapse and the middle-east one dominated by evident abuses and strong privations which have set off unprecedented uprising and social revolts.
CrAcK is the answer to the need of change which the artists often take-charge.

The invited artists are Rabee Kiwan, a young Syrian painter who left Syria about two years ago at the beginning of the conflict, now he lives and works in Beirut: Ayman Nahle, a Lebanese video-maker living and working in Beirut and Alia Hadman, a Lebanese dancer involved in the creation of artistic works based on the links between cinema, dance and performance.
The goal of the project is to dialogue with these artists, making the different arts interact each other with a multidisciplinary approach: in this way In_Ocula performing practice comes up beside the living and working experience of the Middle Eastern artists.

The result will be the production of a site-specific performance that will be presented in La Settimana del Contemporaneo festival inside the spaces of the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, main project-partner.
We call this kind of performance Live Art because it's live and interactive: the audience, having an active and not passive role, becomes an essential part of it and gets involved in the themes dealt with.

During the last week of the residency, the project moves into the spaces of the Fine Art Academy in Bologna to let the Italian and Middle Eastern artists work with a selected group of students. Thanks to a workshop for providing them with them new artistic competences, the students will be actively involved in the performance that will be repeated inside the spaces of the Academy.
This first step of CrAcK ends in the spaces of the Ex-Salesiani complex in Faenza, where we'll project a video documentary of the whole work.

CrAcK is a project we thought more than one year ago: during the last months we did a lot for that, among which we travelled twice to Beirut to know better its reality and culture.
At the present, the first step of the project has been financed and supported by the region Emilia Romagna, covering the 50% of the whole budget. However, there are still many expenses to cover in order to make the project happen, among which board and lodging costs, flight tickets and some production costs to realize the final performance.
For all these reasons, we ask for your help to make CrAcK project happen.
First, we thank you from the bottom of our heart, but also with some small gifts for you!
