Every child deserves a chance to live.1.34 million children die every year before they reach their fifth birthday in India, often from common, preventable and treatable illnesses like pneumonia, diarrhea and infections.

That is where we can help. At the American Heart Association, we know how to help healthcare providers identify illnesses in children that can quickly progress. It is our obligation - and our honor - to share that science and training so more lives can be saved. We’ve launched a very simple but important campaign, Saving Children’s Lives. Alongside the United Nations, the World Health Organization and others, we are determined to decrease under five mortality.

We need your support to train local community and hospital healthcare providers in India to stop easily preventable deaths.

We will train 180 local healthcare providers in the specialized skills needed to assess and address illnesses in babies and children. They will immediately be equipped to provide improved care and start training other healthcare providers to increase impact.

By the end of three years, we aim to expand from the initial 180 healthcare providers to as many as 1,155 with the ability to save children’s lives. By that time we believe the program will be self-sustaining.

With the support of various levels of government in India we believe Saving Children’s Lives can expand throughout the country and serve as a model for other regions – and other countries.
