A due anni dal terremoto del 6 Aprile 2009 che ha devastato la città e la provincia de L'Aquila, si ritorna in quei luoghi.

Con gli occhi pieni di immagini ormai vecchie, il cervello imbottito di rassicurazioni, avallate dal silenzio che circonda la materia, andiamo a vedere come stanno veramente le cose lì.

A dispetto di altri documentari che vogliono sostenere tesi, questo documentario vuole capire una realtà distante anni luce da quella quotidiana del resto degli italiani.

Capire.
Capire cos'è successo.
Capire cosa sta succedendo ora.
Capire cosa c'è stato in questi due anni, per buona parte passati sotto silenzio.

Per fare questo, il mezzo a cui ci affidiamo è la testimonianza diretta delle persone che hanno vissuto l'evento e che devono combattere ogni giorno per conquistare pezzetti di normalità, che finisce con l'essere il più forte desiderio collettivo.

Gli Aquilani ci mostrano, attraverso i loro tentativi per ritornare ad essere una comunità cittadina, cosa significhi vivere oggi in quella terra che sembra ormai parte di una realtà parallela.
La normalità, accostata alla realtà de L'Aquila, fa infatti sembrare quest'ultima un altro stato o un pianeta alieno che noi intendiamo esplorare.

La voce delle persone, spesso assente in molti altri documentari o servizi giornalistici, diviene la protagonista in grado di guidarci e fare chiarezza sui numerosi dubbi che aleggiano intorno al "caso Aquilano".


EIGHT HUNDRED FORTY-NINE – The Life and Secrets of a Forgotten City

Two years after the earthquake on 6th April 2009 which devastated the city and province of Aquila, we return to that land.

With eyes filled with images which are now old, and brains full of reassurances, supported by the silence which surrounds the subject, we are going to see how things really are.

Plot
In spite of other documentaries that want to make a point, this documentary yearns to understand a distant reality which is light years away from the daily life of the rest of Italy.

Understand.
Understand what happened.
Understand what is happening now.
Understand what has happened in these past two years, for the most part spent in silence.

In order to carry this out, we rely on first hand accounts from the people who lived through this event and who must struggle every day to regain pieces of normalcy, which ends up being the greatest collective wish.
The people of Aquila demonstrate, through their attempts to return to be a small town community, what it means to live in that land which now seems part of a parallel reality. Normalcy, alongside L'Aquila's reality, makes the latter seem like another state or alien planet which we intend to explore.
The voice of the people, often absent in most other documentaries or news reports, becomes the protagonist able to guide us and clarify the numerous doubts that lie around the “Aquilan case”.
